Designed and Clothed in Love (continued)

But Adam and Eve had put on aprons from leaves, why did they still feel naked? Why were they naked and not ashamed as we read in Genesis 2:25?

You see, there are four cardinal things that the fall of man produced in him that he had to deal with all the time. And these four things are what the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ came to take care of in our lives.

Fear: The fear of judgment.

Guilt: a knowing of the violation of the law.

Shame: The feeling of confusion that is caused by missing the standards of the person that you are in front of.

The Sense of Unworthiness: Sin produced a sense of unworthiness or inferiority. You see inferiority and superiority are born out of a sense of violating God. Inferiority – I am not worthy. Superiority on the other hand is that sense of developing standards that will invariably make others look lower than you in order to compensate for my inferiority.

Pride: A failure to accept responsibility for one’s action and the tendency out of poor perception and judgement to blame everybody else but you.

So as we will notice in the Pauline prayers for the Ephesian Church in 1:14-23 and 3:14-21, our spiritual eyes opening to see the Love of God for us and in us is what strengthen us to be all He created us for and reverses the power of Sin from the Fall in the garden.

This truth of being naked every time I am blind and unaware of the Love God and conversely cloaked or clothed when I am acutely aware of the wealth of His Love is underscored in this 2 passages where the Spirit admonishes the Church in Revelation through John the Apostle

Revelation 2
9 …I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich)…

Revelation 3
17 …Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked.

Here the concept of nakedness and shame is expressed with clarity by Jesus. He showed what it means to be rich and to be poor.

Why was Adam with his wife naked and not ashamed?

Ephesians 1
4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

1 John 4
7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

When Adam and Eve sinned, what they lost was a consciousness of His love. What made them feel naked was that with their natural eyes and ears, what sounded like love to them now sounded like guilt, shame, fear, and unworthiness.

Love is not something God has; Love is who He is. Man was designed and clothed in love, clothed in the dignity of God’s love, in the unconditional assurance that this obscenely worthy love being is full of His love toward us. He is Omni-benevolent towards us; a God that always constantly has not only goodwill, but has released all of His power to bring His goodwill to pass in your life – that’s your Father God.
