The Crown of Life – For Enduring Trials and Tribulations

James 1 (Berean Study Bible)
12 Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.

Revelation 2 (NIV)
10 Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown.

The Crown of Righteousness

2 Timothy 4 (NIV)
7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

Paul was assured that the Lord Jesus as the righteous judge would give him a crown of righteousness at that day. He went on to say the Lord Jesus would also give such a crown to all those who loved His appearing. The crown of righteousness has nothing to do with our salvation. Our salvation has been settled once and for all even unto eternity. But whether we will receive a crown of righteousness as a prize depends upon how we run the race.

The Crown of Glory

1 Peter 5 (NIV)
4 And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.

This crown is a reward for those who nurtured people in the Kingdom or were good shepherds (pastors) in accordance with God’s values.

The Crown of Rejoicing

1 Thessalonians 2 (21st Century King James Version)
19 For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at His coming?

This is believed to be the crowning reward for soul winners.

An Incorruptible Crown

1 Corinthians 9 (KJ21)
25 And every man that striveth for mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown, but we an incorruptible.

Many theologians categorize this as a separate type of crown, but I see it reflective of all the types of crowns because they are all incorruptible.

General Reward in The Kingdom

Jesus tells us that there is a reward living in as His witness here on earth.

Matthew 5 (NIV)
11 Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.
12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
