Living in the Kingdom of God | Part Six

G. God Is Just – He is Unchangeably Right and Perfect in All He does

Deuteronomy 32 (NASB)
4 The Rock! His work is perfect, For all His ways are just; A God of faithfulness and without injustice, Righteous and upright is He.

What does it mean that God is just? It means more than just saying He is always fair. It means He always does what is right and good toward all men. His mercy does not forbid Him to exercise His justice, nor does His justice forbid Him to exercise His mercy. He is both fully merciful and fully just. This is another hallmark of His Kingdom and for believers as well.

H. God is Merciful

Psalms 145 (NKJV)
8 The Lord is gracious and full of compassion,
Slow to anger and great in mercy.
9 The Lord is good to all,
And His tender mercies are over all His works.

Without the mercy of God, we would have no hope of heaven (His kingdom). Because of our disobedient hearts, we deserved death. “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God,” and, “the wages of sin is death.” But because of mercy, we don’t get what we deserve. Instead, because of the mercy of God, we get life through faith in Christ.

Romans 5 (NLT)
8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

 Ephesians 2 (NKJV)_
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,
5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),

He is rich in mercy and so His kingdom is characterized with it, believers are also to be rich in mercy like their Father and King.

I. God is Omniscient – He is All-Knowing.

Psalms 147 (NKJV)
4 He counts the number of the stars;
He calls them all by name.
5 Great is our Lord, and mighty in power;
His understanding is infinite.

Imagine, God not only knows how many stars are in the universe but knows each one of them by name. A study a few years ago put the approximate number of stars we can see at 700,000,000,000,000,000,000,000. That means there are more stars in the sky than there are grains of sand on all the beaches and deserts of the world and He calls each by name! What an incredible picture of the omniscience of God! Because God is all-knowing, we can trust that He knows everything we’re going through today and everything we will go through tomorrow. When we meditate on this truth, especially considering His other attributes of goodness and love, it makes it easier to trust Him with all we have going on in our lives, from the very serious to the silly and mundane.

J. God is Omnipotent – He is All Powerful.

To be omnipotent means to have unlimited power (omni = all; potent = powerful). God is able and powerful to do anything He wills without any effort on His part. However, God cannot do anything that is contradictory or contrary to His nature. He declares His omnipotence Himself in the Bible.

Jeremiah 32 (NKJV)
27 “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me?

Luke 1 (NKJV)
37 For with God nothing will be impossible.”

*K. God is Omnipresent – He is Always Everywhere.

Psalms 139 (NKJV)
7 Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Or where can I flee from Your presence?
8 If I ascend into heaven, You are there;
If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.

It is because of His omnipresence that:

Matthew 18 (NKJV)
20 For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”

Like I mentioned earlier on, God’s attributes cannot be adequately discussed in a few paragraphs; the intent of the write up is to bring to our remembrance the nature of the King and His kingdom to which we belong. We relate with God because of who He is and our identity in Him under the new covenant, not on the traditions of men or on our feelings.
