The Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus

Romans 8 (KJV)
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.

Here we see a law in the Kingdom of God rendering a diametrically opposing law in the world of none effect! Contrasting the laws of aerodynamics versus the laws of gravity drives home the analogy of these two laws. The laws of aerodynamics (Spirit of life) overrule the laws of gravity (sin and death), thereby allowing people to fly in airplanes (reign in life). The spiritual law of Life in Christ Jesus supersedes the law of sin, sickness and death for the believer. It isn’t a denial of the law of sin and death; it is the imposition of a higher law of God’s kingdom! Even under the Abrahamic covenant we see a manifestation of this law activated by Christ in Luke 13:11-15.

Romans 8 (NLT)
2 And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.

The testimony of John G. Lake readily comes to mind as an example of this idea. He was a businessman who had become a missionary in South Africa when an epidemic broke out. The epidemic was so contagious that merely touching those infected would lead to a fatal infection. But John G. Lake had contact with several infected patients without being infected with the disease. When asked about it, he explained that another kind of life was at work in him and that if the disease and germs encountered his body, the other life within him would destroy them. This was tested and a sample containing the germs was dropped on his hand and viewed underneath the microscope to ensure the germ cells were alive. After a few hours, they checked under the microscope again and observed that all the germ cells had stopped moving, they had all died.

This was the same law Paul operated when he shook off the deadly viper that bit him without incurring any harm in Acts 28:3-6. The truth is, God has made us signs and wonders to draw people into His kingdom. We are subject to a different law (because we are citizens of another kingdom), one the world cannot comprehend – the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus. This is a law that needs to be enforced by us; sin, sickness or death cannot hold us bound!

The Royal Law

James 2 (AMP)
8 If, however, you are [really] fulfilling the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself [that is, if you have an unselfish concern for others and do things for their benefit]” you are doing well.
9 But if you show partiality [prejudice, favoritism], you are committing sin and are convicted by the Law as offenders.

Here is the full text by Jesus from where the quote in James was taken.

Matthew 22 (AMP)
35 One of them, a lawyer [an expert in Mosaic Law], asked Jesus a question, to test Him:
36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37 And Jesus replied to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’
38 This is the first and greatest commandment.
39 The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself [that is, unselfishly seek the best or higher good for others].’
40 The whole Law and the [writings of the] Prophets depend on these two commandments.”

I think loving God was a foregone conclusion to the regenerated spirit man probably the reason the second half alone was quoted in the book of James.

This is the law of the King of the kingdom who is love. This is all the prophets and the law are about; the revelation of God’s love.
