Know and Exercise Your Covenant Rights

Luke 13 (NKJV)
10 Now He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath.
11 And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bent over and could in no way raise herself up.
12 But when Jesus saw her, He called her to Him and said to her, “Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity.”

This can apply to us. Today, Jesus by His Spirit is still calling people to Himself to bless them. He didn’t call this woman to Himself to multiply her sorrows. So why should your becoming a Christian today multiply or intensify the work of the enemy in your life? Jesus didn’t bother to find out if this was a generational curse or not. All He cared about was that she was a child of Abraham, and she had a covenant with God, which included healing, and thus she had a right to be free from her bondage.

Luke 13 (NKJV)
13 And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.

Notice that though Jesus did not cast out the spirit, obviously the spirit left. He just spoke in faith and the devil could not stay! Do you know that the devil is actually scared of you? He’s so scared that he hopes and prays (not to God!) that you will never realize what God has done for you in Christ. For he knows that the day you realize it, is the day he can no longer terrorize you. Once you know the truth, it will set you free!

Luke 13 (NKJV)
14 But the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath; and he said to the crowd, “There are six days on which men ought to work; therefore come and be healed on them, and not on the Sabbath day.”

Do you know why Jesus healed so many people on the Sabbath? “Sabbath” means rest. That is the name of the dispensation we are living in now – the dispensation of grace, the dispensation of rest. Canaan’s land was a land of rest, blessing and increase. Jesus’ healing on the Sabbath signified that this new dispensation was going to be a dispensation of the blessings and grace of God. (See Hebrews 3 and 4.)

Luke 13 (NKJV)
15 The Lord then answered him and said, “Hypocrite! Does not each one of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or donkey from the stall, and lead it away to water it?
16 So ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound—think of it—for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath?”
